Move to the Cloud Complete, Anticipation Running High For MetaPoint CMS Release
Portland, Oregon - March 13, 2009 - MetaPoint today moved their servers from a dedicated server environment to a cloud based cluster running somewhere "out there"!
Along with all of the other upcoming MetaPoint CMS hosting clients of Portland Portals, we were migrated to a cloud based hosting environment today. We should see long term benefits to this type of large scale hosting environment.
Hosting servers in the cloud offers little or no downtime due to the sheer number of optional locations our particular portal can run on at any moment.
Our leaders will be less stress out, pacing the development area, piece of mind that we will never have to get our hands dirty replacing hard drives or memory comes free of charge with the cloud.
The fact that at any moment our portal resides on two identical processing units floating among hundreds of identical servers is pretty cool, so if one fails, the other one takes over. And if they fail? hundreds of identical cores are out there to step up and take the "heat"!
The cloud can automatically grow with you, the ability to adjust disk space, memory, and processor power as needed for growth or traffic spikes is a natural part of the could and is necessary for popular moments such as a product release, or having a famous blogger write about your company. Hey, it could happen...
And, it could happen soon! We anticipate using those crusty old servers we used to host on to become fodder for our QA group to perform final testing of MetaPoint CMS 6.99 in various configurations and kick out any gremlins that may be waiting in the code base. So, in the next week to two weeks we might just roll out the future of Social Collaboration, the MetaPoint CMS 7.0 final!
