<title>MetaPoint CMS 7.0 Now Active in a Production Environment</title>
<link>/metapoint/index.pl?iid=2668;op=show_all</link>
<description>
Our hosting infrastructure was upgraded yesterday to the pre-release MetaPoint CMS 7.0 and the early results are simply wonderful. No real issues to speak of, which is not often the case with major upgrades like these. The only issues we saw were some search algorithms using some Gizmos that have not be activated yet due to special configuration requirements, and some minor formatting on a few pages.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;Compared to most upgrades of this type and we are extremely pleased with the results. We still have to put it through some configuration work, do a little more testing and code updates, and clean some older stuff off our production infrastructure but not long until it will be ready to release for public consumption. Keep your browsers tuned in here for the official launch announcement coming up very, very soon!&#x3C;br /&#x3E;

<title>Calling all Metadot Junkies</title>
<link>/metapoint/index.pl?iid=2672;op=show_all</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I can remember the first time I used Metadot some 7 or 8 years ago. I had been running a team of software developers for a major Computer Aided Design corporation which happened to be bigger on ideas than they were on resources. So we had developers working for us in India, Belgium, The United States, even Japan. &#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E;Up until that point I had employed a hosting company to provide us with a Microsoft Sharepoint Server shared hosting account and the developers could use it to get support files, ask questions in the forums, etc. It was really, really ugly, and very restrictive in where you could pace controls, and what you could or could not place on your page. But we didn&#x27;t know any better so it was &#x26;quot;good enough&#x26;quot; (The Author wonders how many folks out there are stuck on Microsoft Sharepoint and are totally find with it because they don&#x27;t know any better... They say Ignorance is Bliss).&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E;One day Disaster Struck. The sky fell, the Earth stood still, they forgot the bacon on my BLT, it was quite tramatic. Worse than tramatics, one of those days where you look back and ask yourself how a company could have ever hired such an IDIOT (do I sound bitter?, heheh). What happened was we requested a minor formating error be fixed in our SharePoint, and the next think you know, the &#x26;quot;technician? (and I use that term loosely), who had not backed up the data, had WOOT, overwritten over 3 years of historical Intellectual Property. But its okay right, thats why you pay extra for backups, so the company you have trusted with your companies past and by default, it&#x27;s future, could just restore the backup and all would be right with the world, right? Right?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E;Okay, you know the rest of the story, we didnt get anything back and had to start over. So, I refused both to return to the Einsteins who had messed things so bad and to return to a system designed so horribly that a simple database restore could not be accomplished when hosted in a shared environment (bet you didnt know that all you SharePoint lovers).&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E;We looked around for an alternative and the Secretary/Treasurer of the company mentioned Metadot Open Source (figures the beancounter would discover a free solution). I did not have high expectations until I walked down the at first demo hightway and never looked back. Flexible, easy to use, powerful, variety of tools, ease in branding and look and feel, scalable and FUN. With SharePoint your creative side never got a workout because everything went in the same spot on every page. With MetaPoint, heck, you didn&#x27;t even have to put the same stuff on the same page, you could put it way over there if you wanted to. It was unlike anything I had ever worked with before.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E;So, here we are, some 8 years later, and I still feel that the product I worked with oh so long ago is best in it&#x27;s class, by far. Sure, there were a couple of years where it got a little fat, a little lazy being on that unemployment line, while it&#x27;s masters fell in love with another. Now, however, with this release of the 7.0 MetaPoint CMS, its almost like the old days where we would run together through the meadow, picnic lunches, and carefree summer days...&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E;Okay, getting carried away. Hey we are back, MetaPoint CMS 7.0 just hit the street, and those of you stuck on the old Metadot, with a simple upgrade all of you Portal Maniacs are back in business!&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
